TECHNOLOGY
PXB-Mouse from PhoenixBio

PhoenixBio Co., Ltd. was established in March 2002 based on research findings in the Tissue Regeneration Project led by Professor Katsutoshi Yoshizato, Hiroshima University, Japan.

PhoenixBio uses an innovative technology to produce PXB Mice, whose hepatocytes are replaced with human hepatocytes. This technology achieves a human hepatocyte replacement index of over 70 percent by transplanting human hepatocytes into immunodeficient mice with liver failure, urokinase-type plasminogen activator-transgenic SCID mice (uPA/SCID mice).

PXB Mice (Chimeric Mouse with Human Hepatocytes)

The PXB Mouse has unlimited possibilities as a unique humanized in vivo animal model which can be utilized in various areas of drug discovery and development.
The PXB mouse’s high human hepatocyte replacement index enables us to use the model for prediction of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, and toxicity, as well as for HBV and HCV studies.

Applications for Drug Discovery and Development

Possible uses for the PXB mouse:
  • Pharmacokinetic studies
  • Cytochrome P450 enzyme induction studies
  • Drug-drug interaction studies
  • Metabolism studies for drug discovery
  • Profiling of metabolites in bile or urine
  • Biliary excretion studies
  • ADME - toxicity studies
  • In vivo pharmacological efficacy studies
  • HBV, HCV studies
  • Other studies
